Abstract

A method has been described for the exchange blood volume during exchange transfusion and the advantages of the method described. The method can be performed without difficulty in cases where exchange transfusions are necessary.

In this study the average exchanged blood volume was found to be 82 percent of the total blood volume with a one standard deviation of S=13. Exchanged blood volume was found to be related to the amount of blood used per kilogram of body weight. This finding is in accordance with the mathematical estimations.
