Abstract

Fifty-nine patients with superficial bladder tumors were treated between 1979-1983. Twenty-nine of these patients, those with recurrent tumors, were treated with intracavitary thiotepa adjuvant to transurethral resection (TUR) and the other 30 patients, who had primary tumors, were given only TUR. The size, number and grade of the tumors in both groups showed no statistical difference. The recurrence rate per hundred patient-months of follow-up in the primary tumors was 1.91 and in the recurrent tumors, treated with thiotepa, it was 2.34.

As a conclusion, intracavitary thiotepa treatment as an adjuvant to TUR in patients with superficial bladder tumors has not been found to be effective in controlling recurrences.
